Notes from the Composer:
A Musical Party was commissioned by the New Zealand Accordion Association (NZAA) to commemorate their 30th anniversary in June 2001 and dedicated the work to Italian born, New Zealand resident, Silvio De Pra, honoring him for his
outstanding contribution to the accordion in New Zealand.

This work was premièred on June 3 2001, by a massed accordion orchestra and conducted by the composer, Gary Daverne. Originally written for accordion orchestra, this work was revised in 2005 for solo accordion with concert orchestra and recorded by American accordionist, Mary Tokarski, with the Moravian Philharmonic-Czech Republic.

An arrangement for solo accordion with accordion orchestra is also available.
This arrangement is a revised version of the original for accordion orchestra.

Silvio de Pra was born in Belluno, Northern Italy and began playing the accordion at the age of 10. He arrived in NZ in 1955 and was immediately engaged to broadcast on radio in the evenings and to entertain in cabarets in the weekends. He made music his fulltime profession and established himself as a firm favourite with the public, as accordionist, singer and entertainer.

Distribution and difficulty of parts.
All parts require a competent player as a leader.
The most difficult parts are Accordion One and Three, then Two.
Four is the rhythm part and requires rhythmical, steady, competent players.
Parts Five, Six and Seven have most of the themes and harmony. They are quite easy, technically.
Part Eight is the ‘cello equivalent. This is more difficult than parts Five, Six and Seven.
Two percussion players are essential. Three would be even better.
