Camille Saint‑Saëns was a French composer (1835–1921) known for his brilliance across opera, symphonic music, chamber music, and keyboard works. The Bacchanale is the most famous orchestral excerpt from his opera Samson et Dalila (1877), appearing at the start of Act III.
