Fawcett plays the music of Pietro Frosini.
Pietro Frosini was born in Catania, Sicily, in 1886. He began
to play the accordion at the age of six,and soon afterwards
was admitted to the Music Conservatoire where he studied clarinet
and harmony. While still in his teens, he joined the British
Navy for two years, after which he settled in Malta where
he was "discovered" by American talent scouts.
He emigrated to America as a young man and became very successful
as a performer in vaudeville, recording and broadcasting.
His live daily broadcasts on W.O.R. radio in New York covered
a period of twenty years non-stop. A pioneer and virtuoso
of the accordion, he carried on performing and composing right
to the end despite many years of ill - health. He died in
New York in 1951. Frosini wrote music in his own unique, very
atractive style, and his compositions are known and loved
by accordionists worldwide. I had the privilege of meeting
him personally and ten of the compositions on this recording
were given to Adrian Dante by Frosini shortly before he died.
Some of these are recorded here for the first time. |
