Raimo Vertainen founded Guardia Nueva in 2001. Since its inception, Guardia Nueva has been the musical backbone of the Argentine Tango and in particular the music of Astor Piazzolla in Finland. Other Argentine composers of music has risen to the fore including Anibal Troilo, Osvaldo Pugliese and Alfredo Gobbi.

Guardia Nueva has had time to work together on many important soloists and this expanded the repertoire and styles of music Guardia Nueva was performing.

Guardia Nueva made concerts with great success in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in the autumn of 2004. The concerts included . Salon Dorado " Golden Hall " , Osvaldo Pugliese , " La Casa del Tango " , the National Tango Academy hall, as well as live radio concert for 100 million listeners (Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Brazil) .

In autumn 2006, the orchestra toured to Turkey, appearing in Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir . The Istanbul concert was televised on CNN Turkey - channel , and the Helsingin Sanomat wrote a concert tour article.

There have been many concerts in Finland such as the Finland Seinäjoki Tango Festival , Kaustisen Folk Music Festival , Aspen Water Folk, Acoustic Ylivieskan , Kokkola Winter Accordion , Argentine tango dance world championships, Oulainen Music Week , Celebration Tango Week in Oulu , as well as individual concerts all around Finland.

The 2011 year was particularly successful Guardia Nueva . It was Guardia Nueva's 10th anniversary and they performed to the President of the Republic, as well as at Turku Castle for a concert with 2,800 audience. YLE TV2 presented two recordings of the Guardia Nueva's 10th anniversary concert as well as a documentary.

In 2012 there was an increase in concerts and the popularity of Guardian Nueva has continues to move forward.

Conductor Raimo Vertainen is a multiexpert in different music sectors. He is a conductor, teacher, artistic director, arranger, organizer, musician and ideamonger. All this versatility and knowhow is heard in concerts when Raimo Vertainen is conducting. His outstanding achievement as a creator and conductor of Guardia Nueva Orchestra continues still today.
