Description: Paljetti CD by 2 Rivismusiikkia Accodeion Music From Finland |
Finland Recording Index
This
record is an introduction to the diatonic two-row accordion
(also called melodeon on the British Isles) music by five
Finnish musicians who represent different accordion styles
of the 90's.
It all started from a radio program where Seppo Sillanpaa,
the producer of this record introduced accordion music. Some
of the musicians who play on the record participated as playing
quests in the program. Plenty of material saw daylight during
the recording session and gradually Seppo Sillanpaa and Kimmo
Mattila from the Finnish Accordeon Institute came up with
the idea to put some of the two-row accordeon music on record.
To make it all possible came with the helping hand from the
Finnish Broadcasting Company and the Finnish Accordeon Institute
as sponsors.
The musicians represent different styles. However, their roots
are in Finnish traditional accordeon music but the playing
has taken additional flavour from foreign styles, too. Anyhow,
the spirit of the music is still Finnish.
Veli-Matti Jarvenpaa has been inspired besides Finnish also
by Tex-Mex music and Cajun music from Louisiana. There are
elements from Zydeco, too.
Minna Luoma, the only female accordionist on the record is
a good example of Finnish two-row music. She has played the
tricky instrument for only about three years now but is already
very skilled with it.
Hannu Leivo has composed all the tunes he plays on the record.
In his playing you can hear inspiration from British and Zydeco
styles.
Hannu Seppanen is another composer of own tunes. He has been
inspired by many different styles but on this record you can
hear influences from France and Sweden.
All the styles mentioned above have also beeb the source of
inspiration for Kimmo Pohjonen who plays own melodies. He
is joined by Kurt Lindblad on the flute and the bagpipes.
This kind of duo is not at all common as to the two-row accordeon. |
