All of the pieces on this
CD are realities, not fantasies or dream like statements. They are
born out of a pluralistic vision, not a singular one. Many of them
are based on pre-existing situations as well as compositions. The
bassoon and the accordion are the perfect catalysts for this reality
dimension due to their "virtual" abilities to be whatever
they need to be.
Archipelago - the original Georgian folksong used in Werner
Herzog's Nosferatu, is presented here in world dance beat mix, with
six bassoon tracks.
Harbor Lights - was inspired by Kuuskmann and Schimmel's
first meeting at the Cape May Music Festival in New Jersey - a seaside
resort. It also pays homage to Laurence Welk, Bert Kaempfert and
James Last.
Samba Di Gamba - brings Brazilian carnival in sync with Mardi
Gras making it, making it a double-whamy party number.
Autumn Leaves - a chanson; a pop hit; an art song; a classical
piece all in one is presented here with its original long form intro
a masterpiece in itself.
Tantric Bartok - employs and deconstructs his great concerto
for orchestra.
Peppermint Twist - is a sped up cover of the 1962 Joey D.
and the Starliters classic used in the film. Hey! Let's twist!
Stairway To Honey-A Taste of Heaven - combines teh Jimmy
Page/Robert Plant-Led Zeppelin classic with A Taste Of Honey, giving
it a new synergy.
Chamanuet in G Minor - fuses the minuet and Argentine chamame
forms together with a famous Beethoven melody.
Piazzolla/Getz - is based on an actual tango by Astor Piazzolla
as well as actual performance by him with tenor sax great, Stan
Getz.
Walk On The Wild Side - is a reality on the Elmer Bernstein
classic, recollecting the big band arrangement by Oliver Nelson
featuring the jazz organ great, Jimmy Smith. All this on bassoon
and accordion.
Windmills Of Your Mind - is a nordic rendition of Michel
Legrand's 1967 hit classic written for the Thomas Crown affair.
