Written in F minor, this piece is designed to show the dynamic musical and technical ability of the performer. It starts off with a rather slow, somewhat mournful melodic theme in 3/4 time in a minor key. Suddenly, the tempo turns violently fast in 4/4 time. Between its intricate chromatic runs, thick jazzy chords, numerous trills and glissandos, a relentless drive and a few surprises along the way, the performer must keep up the pace to the very end, using good fingering and an even touch throughout. The main theme is stated again twice, but in a mix of 6/4 and 4/4 time. There’s a hint of the desperate bullfighter in this one! |
