the Author
Rob Howard has had an addiction to all things accordion for as long as he can remember, and began learning to play in the late 1960s. Since then he has played in folk clubs, in accordion bands, ceilidh bands, for a Polish dance team, in a Bavarian Band, been a resident entertainer in an Italian restaurant, played for many French-themed events, as a duo with fellow accordionst John Jones MBE at the Stockport Air Raid Shelters, in numerous stage shows, and for a variety of solo gigs.
He has written articles for accordion magazines since 1983, and was the News Editor for Accordions Worldwide from 2004 until 2018. He has also written ten books, nine of which are about the accordion and those who play this wonderful instrument. These are available through www.accordions.com
In 1987 Rob joined Stockport Accordion Club, and has played in many band concerts and NAO competitions. Since 1990 he has been the club’s Concert Secretary and the compere of their many very popular concert evenings, featuring guest accordionists from all over the UK, Ireland, and from many other parts of the world. In 1988 Rob began writing Stockport Accordion Club’s bi-monthly newsletter, which today circulates literally around the world. He remains an incurable accordion addict!
''Rob is to be congratulated upon producing a fascinating and very
readable account of the accordion scene, from its origins to the present
day.'' -
